I am not someone that believes there are quick fixes in life. You hear things like change your life in a minute or beat depression in 60 seconds. To create lasting change, things take a bit of time.

Today we are going to talk about how to get something off your mind and stop the negative thinking. This one tip helped me create lasting change in my thinking.

What good is feeling sorry for yourself at that present moment? What good are these thoughts doing? They’re just making you feel worse. So, you ask yourself, is this useful? Your answer would be no.

The thoughts will stop because you’ve asked yourself. There’s no point. You have given yourself permission to stop your thoughts. What this also does is encourages you to take action.

That’s the most important thing in how to get something off your mind. I’m lonely, I am sad, and I am unhappy, don’t help you. Now, how are you going to get something off your mind?

You can really focus on the present moment when you don’t have these negative thoughts stirring in your mind. ‘Is this useful?’ These three words have changed my life. It has created clarity in my mind.

What information are you listening to? Try to filter that information because if you are listening to sad music, and you are singing the lyrics, your brain gets used to these negative thoughts. You get used to these negative phrases. You are hearing negative thoughts all the time listening to the news or singing lyrics to sad songs. It’s going to be hard for you to stay positive.

When you are on Facebook or watching TV, is it all negative? Are the movies you watch about motivational success stories or difficult situations in life? Many movies are about life struggles, sadness, all the problems and issues that people have to overcome. It looks easy in the movies, but in real life, it’s different. So if you are watching negative information or watching sad stories, you train your brain to focus on those negative things in life. If you want to be a positive person, start filtering the information you see.

When you talk to your friends, do you tell sad stories or complain about your life? Are you are a happy person or a happy friend? Do you see the positive side in a situation or the negative? Your friends can give you feedback about this. When you’re going to filter everything you say, you might notice you are using a lot of negative words and phrases. Start rephrasing your sentences and using positive words.
